Ecosa vs Koala Mattress 2024

Looking for a new mattress? With the number of new brands marketing online, it can be hard to make the choice, especially when this is something that should be used for a decade. There are a lot of factors to go through to make a responsible decision about what’s best for your sleep.

Koala has three models of mattress ranging from $750 to a couple of thousand AUD. The Koala Mattress and the Koala Calm As Mattress both have five size options from single to king, and the newest Koala Soul Mate Mattress is only available in the three larger sizes (double, queen, and king) since it is designed for two people.

Koala also offers a student discount of 10% and a referral program offering $200 for both parties. They provide financing options, though they have some of the more affordable products on the market.

Ecosa offers four models, one of which is specifically for children, with a comparable price range to Koala’s options. Their premium model, Pure Mattress, only exists in two sizes (queen and king), but its most popular model, their lowest cost one, Vital Mattress, has five, Ecosa Mattress, has seven size options, making it the most customizable.

Ecosa offers financing options. They also have a referral program that enters the parties as Ecosaperks members, which gives exclusive discount availability.

Materials and Design

Koala mattresses use a variety of foam layers to create a unique feeling. Each of their three models uses different innovative layers to produce varied effects like cooling or water resistance. Some added features on the premium mattresses include adaptive foam springs and naturally antimicrobial charcoal.

Ecosa mattresses are each made with a different material, for a different purpose in mind, one using micro coils, one memory foam, and one latex, depending on the firmness or breathability one is looking for.

They also use microfilaments to reduce bacteria and dust, and many of these parts are made without plastic and use recycled or organic materials.

Comfort and Support

Koala designs its mattresses to have a softer side and a firmer side, which allows for customer versatility. This “flippable firmness” is made possible by having several layers of different materials. The more expensive models have more layers, including a quilted cover, foam, or structural support to prevent sinking and sagging.

Koala designs its beds to be breathable, and each of its models incorporates technology to keep cool.

Ecosa is specifically designed for back support, the beds being generally firmer, though these can be modified by the owner with interchanging layers. This makeup is better for back-sleeping rather than for being on one’s stomach. Unlike other firm mattresses, they have an innovative top layer made to prevent partner disturbance, and some models are reversible for versatility.

Not all models are waterproof, but all have ergonomic spine alignment tech. They also have options in micro coils, memory foam, or latex.

Shipping Range

Koala provides same-day shipping options to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide, and in the rest of the country, the shipping is under ten days but is not free for large items. Mattresses are shipped for free, but not all other products are.

Ecosa has a wider range and sells to other countries including the USA, Canada, New Zealand, and Hong Kong. Keep in mind that not all their stores supply every product, and their main operation is out of Australia.

They provide free delivery and same-day shipping in metro areas and use small boxes to make transport even easier.

Money-Back and Warranties

Koala offers a free 120 day trial on these mattresses, but if you do find you want to send yours back, they only collect them from select cities around Australia, namely Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. Otherwise, they will direct the customer to one of their warehouses, and each is made with recyclability in mind.

For their mattresses, Koala provides a 10-year warranty.

Ecosa offers a 100-day trial, but rather than collecting the mattress, will arrange to have it donated to a charity they work with. If this is not possible, they aim to help the customer recycle the material. They provide a 15-year warranty.

Both always provide a never-before-used bed to the shoppers.

Related Products

If you find that the blended materials and build are to your liking, it could save you hassle when shopping for related items and full sets on offer.

Koala sells a much wider range than Ecosa, including items unrelated to bedding like desks, tables, and upholstered chairs, but more in line with sleep, they also sell bed-frames, linens, and pillows with the same mixed-firmness layers as the mattresses. With free shipping, it could be useful to set up your bedroom quickly. Each has varying warranty periods.

Ecosa sells linens, side tables, and sofas with the same mattress-like cushion design. Many of these products are available to order as a set making the whole process even easier. They also sell mattress toppers, great for getting more comfort and customization out of a mattress for longer.

Outside of Australia, they provide silk pillowcases and ergonomic memory foam pillows with customizable options as well.

Sustainability and Charity

Environmentalism certainly does not have to be a factor in choosing the best option for sleep. Still, you can rest easy knowing both companies put tremendous effort into making your purchase go towards something positive.

Koala belongs to 1% For The Planet and is a B-Corp business. They have donated millions towards wildlife conservation and partner with another company to make sure the material in their old mattresses is recycled.

Ecosa’s business is built around sustainability, being 100% carbon neutral, using recycled materials in their mattresses, and recyclable or biodegradable packaging. They give returned mattresses to charity and have programs to recycle old ones.
