Sheets

Thread count is a convenient measure of fabric quality. It is measured by counting the number of threads contained in one square inch of fabric. Standard cotton thread counts are around 200 while good quality sheets start at 250 and above. Thread count in sheets can range from 80 to 1000, although most stores sell sheets that range from 180 to 320. In general, the higher the thread count, the softer and heavier the fabric. This terminology is especially used in regards to bed linens such as bed sheets and valances made from cotton. Sheets made of linen, flannel, or jersey have low thread counts due to the type of fabric, and therefor rarely refer to them.
